Keosha

"WITHOUT ANY BOOKS, school would be a disaster. We’d have nothing to read and learn with. With books, you can learn more and know more." - Keosha, 3rd grade at Lillie Burney Elementary School in Hattiesburg, MS.

Rebuilding children's lives...one new book at a time. Within days of Katrina's landfall, First Book launched Book Relief — an unprecedented effort to provide 5 million new books to the children and families who lost so much in the 2005 hurricanes and to organizations rebuilding the Gulf Coast. In the past two years, Book Relief has distributed millions of new books in the five Gulf states and to programs serving evacuees in an additional 16 states.

5 Million Books

First Book will reach its goal of 5 million brand-new books on August 21, 2007. We are proud to reach this amazing goal, which marks the official conclusion of Book Relief and a new beginning for First Book on the Gulf Coast.

After August 21st, programs serving children from low-income families along the Gulf Coast will join organizations across the nation in accessing all of First Book's programs to provide new books to children in need.
